BANGKOK, Thailand – The United States Embassy in Thailand issued a statement urging Cambodia and Thailand to cease hostilities, withdraw heavy weapons, stop deploying landmines, and fully implement the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement.

The statement was delivered by Thomas Piggott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the United States, who reiterated the call for Cambodia and Thailand to end the fighting, withdraw heavy weapons, stop landmine deployment, and fully carry out their commitments under the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement.

He said the agreement provides mechanisms to accelerate humanitarian landmine clearance and address border issues. The United States welcomed ASEAN leaders’ efforts this week to support Cambodia and Thailand in meeting their obligations to end the conflict. (NNT)
