H.E. Glyn T. Davies, US ambassador to Thailand, on 19 October led embassy staff in paying tribute to the late King. The participants offered their condolences by standing for 89 seconds in silence, one second for each year of the late King’s life. They also laid garlands of yellow marigolds in front of a portrait of King Rama 9. Additionally, in the embassy grounds, there are marigold flowers planted in the shape of the Thai number 9.

The US ambassador said the embassy of the United States has organized many significant activities in remembrance of the late King since he passed away last year. The embassy feels a part of Thailand and there are many Thai staff working at the US mission here. “We want to demonstrate our respect for the beloved King, not only on behalf of Thai people but also the Americans,” said the US ambassador.

He added that on Thursday, the day of the Royal Cremation, Americans across the U.S. will gather to join Thai people in remembrance of H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
