BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed questions regarding the signing of the Joint Statement following the Thailand–Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, particularly concerns about trust and unverified rumors alleging that a cargo aircraft may have transported weapons to the neighboring country.

The Prime Minister stated that these reports are not yet credible and emphasized that intelligence is continuously monitored and verified by security and military agencies. He said that any information confirmed or that poses a potential risk would be formally reported through appropriate channels.

Addressing concerns that Cambodia might reinforce weapons or troops during the ceasefire, the Prime Minister said rules of engagement are already in place. He stated that Cambodia was the party that requested ceasefire talks and had cooperated by participating in discussions over several days. He added that the Joint Statement clearly stipulates both sides will refrain from further violations, expressing hope that Cambodia would honor its commitments.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs invited the foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia to participate in discussions in Kunming, reflecting China’s support for regional peace. He said further dialogue would help reinforce mutual understanding, stressing that all details are clearly set out in the Joint Statement. (NNT)
