Officials of the Election Commission of Thailand oversee the registration of party-list MP candidates as political parties submit documents and draw ballot numbers on the first day of registration, December 30, 2025.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) reported that the registration of party-list Members of the House of Representatives (MPs) on the first day proceeded smoothly, with political parties able to submit applications until 4.30 p.m. on December 31, 2025.

EC Secretary-General Sawaeng Boonmee stated that the registration process has been orderly, with cooperation from political parties, supporters, and the media. Fifty-two political parties registered before 8.30 a.m., after which the ECT verified eligibility before drawing ballot numbers.

He noted that parties still have time to submit their party-list MP applications before the December 31 deadline. Today, parties must also present their campaign policies, which the EC will carefully review for legal compliance before sharing them with voters nationwide to help them make informed choices.

Regarding the referendum, the Secretary-General noted that the Constitution guarantees individuals and organisations the right to campaign. Political parties must first register with the EC to declare whether they support or oppose the referendum question. Parties may campaign to indicate their stance, but must not provide false or misleading information, as this would violate the referendum law. Referendum campaign expenses must be reported separately from election campaign expenses.

Regarding the Thailand–Cambodia border, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the EC’s determination to hold elections as planned on February 8, 2026. Although the law permits a postponement if needed, he expressed confidence that all preparations will be completed in time, ensuring that the election schedule remains unchanged nationwide. (NNT)
