BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Commerce has partnered with fresh markets, wholesale centers, and major retail chains nationwide to offer discounts of up to 50 percent on Chinese New Year products, helping ease household expenses during the holiday season. The campaign, led by the Department of Internal Trade, runs until February 17 and covers a wide range of festival essentials.
The program was launched recently in Nonthaburi province in cooperation with the Thai Fresh Market Association and the Thai Agricultural Wholesale Market Trade Association. Twenty fresh and central markets in five provinces are taking part, alongside national retail chains and local stores nationwide.
Discounted items include worship sets, ceremonial sweets, auspicious fruits, and everyday consumer goods. Promotional prices feature whole-cooked chicken at 133 baht per kilogram, and small worship sets at no more than 99 baht. Retailers have prepared additional stock to meet increased demand, with cooked chicken prices during peak days expected to range from 180 to 350 baht per item, depending on size.
To ensure fair pricing and adequate supply, the Department of Internal Trade has deployed inspection teams to monitor participating outlets. Officials are checking price displays, verifying the accuracy of weighing scales, and preventing unjustified price increases during the festival period. (NNT)
