BANGKOK, 1 Jan 2014,  – Transport Ministry has prepared to provide sufficient train and bus services for the more than 1 million holidaymakers who are returning to Bangkok this week.

According to Mr. Prapat Jongsanguan, Governor of the State Railways Authority of Thailand (SRT), one to two extra cars have been attached to each of the train. The SRT has also increased the frequency of the northern and northeastern trips to 27 per day.

He said that the increased trips should be able to accommodate 400,000 to 45,000 passengers daily. Prapat aalso noted that the number of travelers this year is lower than previous year’s. The drop in the number of holidaymakers is attributed either to travelers switching to using personal vehicles, or skipping their New Year travel plans entirely due to the political upheaval or financial problems.
