KALASIN, Thailand – A military officer shot and killed his superior officer inside a provincial hall in northeastern Thailand on Wednesday, following a dispute over a transfer order, police said.

The suspect, identified as Sub-Lieutenant Chinnakorn Wejkama, 59, surrendered to police at the scene immediately after the incident on the fourth floor of the Kalasin Provincial Hall. The shooting occurred at around 9:20 a.m. local time inside the office of the provincial recruiting unit, triggering panic among civil servants and members of the public inside the government building.

Police found the body of Colonel Kornwikanon Wongsaonao, 59, the provincial recruiting officer, with multiple gunshot wounds inside his office. A preliminary investigation showed the shooting was triggered by a conflict over an official order transferring Chinnakorn to a recruiting office in another district. Chinnakorn reportedly confronted Korwikanon to discuss the matter, leading to a heated argument before the suspect drew his weapon and opened fire. Kalasin Governor ordered forensic teams to gather evidence and instructed police to proceed strictly with legal action. Local authorities are also providing psychological support to government staff who witnessed the incident. (TNA)
