BANGKOK, Thailand – Authorities reopened Ladprao Road in eastern Bangkok early Wednesday after engineering teams rushed overnight to repair a sinkhole that disrupted traffic, officials said.
Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), said the road near Lotus’s Bang Kapi reopened to normal traffic at 5:00 a.m. local time on June 17. Only a small, specific section remains temporarily cordoned off for final surface adjustments. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a section of the outbound road subsided, creating a crater approximately 3 meters wide, 4 meters long, and 1.5 meters deep.
The BMA, in coordination with the Department of Public Works, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, and local district officials, deployed teams to drain water from the site and stabilize the structure. “Teams filled the void with cement and sand before applying fast-setting concrete, completing the core repairs by 1:00 a.m.,” Narong said, adding that authorities waited for the materials to fully cure and conducted safety checks before reopening the lanes. City officials said they are working with relevant agencies to investigate the root cause of the subsidence and assess the structural integrity of the surrounding area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
