SUPHAN BURI, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited Suphan Buri province on August 1, to inspect low-cost rice farming demonstration plots and discuss agricultural development with local communities. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa, Interior Permanent Secretary Unsit Sampuntharat, Suphan Buri Governor Natthapong Sanguanchit, local officials, private sector representatives, and farmers in Doem Bang Nang Buat district.
The Prime Minister emphasized that farmers are the foundation of Thailand’s economy and food security. He highlighted government initiatives to increase agricultural income by reducing costs and improving yields. Key strategies include promoting precision agriculture to reduce chemical and labor use, distributing high-yield and drought-resistant seeds, and upgrading irrigation networks to ensure sufficient water during the harvest season.
Agricultural experts and local officials briefed the delegation on knowledge transfer programs and zero-burn harvesting techniques. These sustainable methods use agricultural waste to add value and support low-carbon rice production at the community level. The delegation also toured six demonstration plots covering 95 rai, including 58 rai of Riceberry and 37 rai of soft white rice, developed with private enterprise partners.
Suphan Buri serves as a key model for modern agricultural adaptation in Thailand. By adopting new technologies and supporting farmer cooperatives, the province is navigating major challenges such as rising production costs and climate change, while meeting global market demands for safe, traceable, and environmentally friendly produce.
