Labour Minister Treenuch Thienthong orders stricter background checks and interagency coordination to prevent foreign workers from using legal employment as a cover for fraud or other illegal activity, with zero tolerance for violations.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Labour has stepped up enforcement of work permit regulations for foreign nationals to prevent transnational criminal groups from using legal employment as a cover for illicit activity. Labour Minister Treenuch Thienthong has instructed the Department of Employment and related agencies across the country to intensify background checks and document verification, particularly in key economic zones and border areas.

Authorities have raised concerns that some foreign networks are exploiting Thailand’s employment channels to establish scam operations, posing a risk to both public safety and national economic security. In response, officials have been directed to coordinate closely with immigration and national security agencies to ensure that all foreign workers undergo strict screening before permits are issued.

Under the new measures, any foreign national found to have used a work permit to engage in fraud or other illegal activity will face immediate revocation of their permit and prosecution. The ministry has made clear that there will be zero tolerance for such violations.

Efforts are also underway to enhance interagency cooperation and close loopholes in the permit system to prevent future abuse and ensure that only legitimate workers are allowed to remain employed in Thailand. (NNT)
