BANGKOK, Thailand – Her Majesty the Queen led Thailand’s sailing team to a strong opening performance at the 33rd SEA Games on Monday (Dec 15), securing two race victories in the Keelboat SSL 47 event. The competition took place at Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Pattaya, Chonburi province, where Her Majesty presided over the event and took part as an active competitor.

Before racing began, Her Majesty attended the official competition briefing and later boarded Boat No. 6 wearing the Thailand national team uniform. The Thai team competed against crews from Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Myanmar in three scoring races on the first day.

Serving as both strategist and navigator, Her Majesty guided race plans and assessed wind conditions throughout the event. Team Thailand finished first in Races 1 and 2, followed by a third-place finish in Race 3, delivering the strongest overall performance of the day.

As a result, Thailand holds first place in the standings after Day 1 with the lowest penalty total of five points. The Keelboat SSL 47 makes its debut at this year’s SEA Games, with eight races scheduled overall and the lowest cumulative penalty score determining the gold medal winner in the mixed sailing category. (NNT)
