BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Navy has rejected social media claims that it planned to close or blockade the Gulf of Thailand against Cambodia, stating that the reports are false. The clarification was issued by Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiphan, the navy’s spokesperson.

Officials said the navy has never developed or considered any plan to impose a blockade in the Gulf of Thailand. The allegations were dismissed as misinformation with no factual basis.

The statement reaffirmed that Thailand operates in line with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and International Humanitarian Law, both of which protect freedom of navigation.

The navy said its maritime operations are conducted cautiously and within accepted legal boundaries, with attention to the safety of civilians in both countries and to vessels from states not involved in the situation.

The Royal Thai Navy said its actions are limited to protecting national sovereignty, national security, and public safety, and are not intended to disrupt international shipping or harm civilians. The public and media were urged to rely on official sources to prevent misunderstandings and the spread of false reports. (NNT)
