Thailand snatches 2 golds from the 16th World Pencak Silat Championship in Phuket

PHUKET, 15 Jan 2015 – Thai athletes yesterday snatched 2 golds from the 16th World Pencak Silat Championship 2015, currently being held in Phuket. The Pencak Silat Association of Thailand is confident Thai athletes will be able to claim at least three more golds in Thailand’s next match tomorrow. 

There were 12 golds up for grasp in the competition yesterday. The 2 golds Thailand was able to secure were from Class A Female by Ms. Naphaporn Booncheun, after defeating Indonesia’s Sri Rahayu. The other gold was from Class D Male by Pornthep Poonkaew after he took down his Malaysian opponent.

Pornthep said that he was very pleased with his result, crediting his victory to all Thais especially Phuket locals, who came to give moral support, and his extensive trainings.

Final matches are scheduled for tomorrow. Thailand will compete in 3 categories as follows; Class B Male where Thailand’s Nantachai Khansakorm will brawl Indonesia’s Aprin Ardianto, while Supharas Kiewkeaw will fight Malaysia’s Siri Rahnah Binti Mohamadnas in Class E Female. Finally, Surasak Deklee would take on Indonesia’s Juanda Samsul Bahar in Class H Male.
