Thailand sets Feb 8 referendum and general election, voter registration open for overseas and out-of-area voting

The Election Commission opens registration for overseas, out-of-area, and special polling station voting ahead of the February 8, 2026 referendum and general election.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Election Commission of Thailand has announced voter registration procedures for referendum voting outside designated polling areas, overseas, and at special polling stations. This follows the Prime Minister’s designation of 8 February 2026 as the national referendum date, which will coincide with the general election of Members of the House of Representatives as set by the Election Commission.



Eligible voters who wish to cast referendum ballots outside their registered area or outside Thailand may register through the following channels:

– In person at a district or local registrar, or with an ambassador or designated representative, from January 3 to 5, 2026, during official hours.

– By post from January 3 to 5, 2026; the postmark date will determine eligibility.

– Online from January 2026, available 24 hours a day. The system will close automatically at 24:00 (Thailand time) on January 5, 2026.


Persons with disabilities, impairments, or elderly voters must register to vote at designated special polling stations with the provincial election director or an authorized representative in provinces where these stations are available, from January 3 to 5, 2026, during official hours.
