BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to peace, calling out Cambodia for continuous provocations and violating the ceasefire agreement through recent border protests.
Following a border protest where Thai officials were injured, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused Cambodia of violating the ceasefire agreement and using its citizens as “human shields”. Spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura affirmed that Thailand has strictly adhered to the July 28th ceasefire agreement, viewing it as a vital step toward peace.
The spokesperson stated that despite recent commitments to de-escalation at General Border Committee meetings, the two governments have chosen different paths. He asserted that Thailand has chosen the “path of cooperation,” while Cambodia has chosen the “path of conflict” through continuous provocations. He defended the installation of defensive barriers within Thai sovereign territory as a peaceful measure intended to prevent clashes and ensure the safety of people on both sides.
Nikorndej concluded by reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to resolving the border tensions through peaceful means based on Thai and international law. He stressed that Thailand will continue to utilize all existing bilateral channels, including the GBC, RBC, JBC, and direct government communication, to achieve a peaceful resolution. (NNT)
