BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is moving ahead with Thailand’s accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), with the Cabinet approving a national steering committee, chaired by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, to drive progress toward the 2028 membership target.
Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhanadirek said the committee will set policy direction and oversee implementation across agencies. Deputy prime ministers Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, and Pakorn Nilprapunt will serve as vice chairpersons, alongside senior officials from economic, legal, foreign affairs, and budget agencies. External experts, including Kitti Tangjitrmaneesakda, Dr. Thaweelap Rittapirom, Sarun Charoensuwan, and Prof. Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak, have also been appointed.
Thailand is currently in the technical review stage, assessing how its laws, policies, and practices align with OECD standards. Agencies are compiling data and working with OECD committees across sectors. The new committee will guide the process, provide recommendations, and ensure coordination among all relevant bodies.
Authorities said the accession will improve governance, economic policy, investment conditions, and public-sector standards. The government plans to continue updating laws, regulations, and data systems to meet international benchmarks, aiming to improve competitiveness and investor confidence in the long term.
