
KALASIN, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yodchanan Wongsawat delivered policy directions on higher education, science, research, and innovation during a visit to Kalasin University in Kalasin Province on May 30, 2026.
The Deputy Prime Minister chaired a policy meeting with provincial officials, university executives, faculty members, students, and network partners. The visit aimed to strengthen the role of higher education institutions in supporting national and local development through research, innovation, and human resource development. During the visit, Yodchanan toured eight exhibition booths showcasing the university’s projects and innovations.
The exhibits highlighted research and innovation applied to community development such as health biotechnology, the “Dud Suam Der” service platform, reed mat community enterprise development, AI-assisted English language learning, business incubation programs, and poverty alleviation initiatives.
Kalasin University also presented its development strategy and key projects in workforce development, educational advancement, promotion of the creative economy, conservation of the Pao River Basin ecosystem, startup incubation, and research to improve local communities’ quality of life. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized universities as key drivers of national development by producing skilled personnel, fostering knowledge creation, and advancing research and innovation that address local needs. He also underscored the importance of collaboration among government agencies, the private sector, educational institutions, and civil society to advance sustainable economic and social development.
