BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi has instructed state media agencies to provide verified information and updates about the recent murder cases in Chonburi province to restore international confidence and counter misinformation. On August 2, the Minister directed the Public Relations Department (PRD) and MCOT Public Company Limited to provide accurate updates through major channels, including the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) and Radio Thailand. This directive follows Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s visit to the sites, where he assured the international community that the incident was an isolated act by a repeat offender. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government’s strict policy against sentence reductions for serious crimes and its commitment to enforcing maximum legal penalties.
To support government directives, Minister Supamas instructed state media networks and their foreign-language branches to promptly inform international audiences about the suspects’ quick apprehension and ongoing judicial proceedings. She stressed the need to follow media ethics by withholding violent images and respecting the dignity of victims and their families. The Thai News Agency’s Sure And Share center was also assigned to actively debunk fake news and misinformation online to ensure the public receives verified information. The Minister also urged the public not to amplify perpetrators’ statements or share graphic content. Instead, she encouraged citizens to support victims’ families, rely on official news sources, and report suspicious information to the Sure And Share center for verification. (NNT)
