Thailand has launched the Thai Domestic Power “Kid’s Athletics” program to promote youth fitness and grassroots sports development, bringing internationally recognized athletics training to children aged 8–12 across the country.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has launched the Thai Domestic Power “Kid’s Athletics” program on World Kids’ Athletics Day, expanding youth athletics development nationwide through cooperation between the Athletic Association of Thailand, the National Sports Development Fund, and World Athletics. The launch event, held at the Sports Authority of Thailand, was led by the President of the Athletics Association of Thailand, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, and the National Sports Development Fund Manager, Thanukiat Chanchum.

The program, targeting children aged 8–12 across all 77 provinces, seeks to introduce internationally recognized athletics training at the grassroots level. The event was attended by officials from World Athletics and the Asian Athletics Association, private-sector supporters, and members of Thailand’s national athletics team, including sprinter Puripol Boonson. The project will operate through provincial sports associations divided into five regional zones to expand participation nationwide.

The program uses the World Athletics Kids’ Athletics curriculum, which teaches basic athletic movement and physical development through seven activity stations. The stations include Formula One for rolling, tumbling, running, and crawling; Cross Hop for balance and directional movement; Precision Throw for coordination and controlled throwing; Relay Ladder & Hurdle for rhythm and footwork; Triple Bounce for jumping and lower-body power; Overhead Backward Throw for strength and energy transfer; and Long Run, an eight-minute endurance activity intended to improve breathing and lung capacity.

The project will also be incorporated into the 12th Border Patrol Police Schools Student Games, involving 222 Border Patrol Police schools nationwide. The curriculum encourages exercise, discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among children while supporting long-term athlete development and coach training standards across the country.

Schools interested in participating may apply through June 15, 2026. Competition updates and registration details are available on Facebook at “TDP Kids Athletics” and through the official Line account @tdpkidsathletics. Organizers said the championship finals will feature trophies, medals, and certificates bearing the emblem of the Sports Promotion Project for Thai National Development under Royal Patronage. (NNT)
