Senior ministers led a ceremony at Ta Kwai Temple in Surin to honor soldiers killed in past border conflicts, as authorities push ahead with restoration plans and surveys of ancient sites for future heritage and tourism development.

SURIN, Thailand – Thailand’s Ministers of Defense and Culture on Wednesday led a commemorative ceremony at Ta Kwai Temple to honor soldiers who died in past border conflicts.

The event, which included wreath-laying at the Ta Kwai Heroes Monument and traditional worship ceremonies, marked the first large-scale gathering at the site since border skirmishes ended last year. The activity served to assert Thai administrative presence and boost the morale of local residents in Surin Province.

Following the ceremony, the Fine Arts Department announced a budget request for the comprehensive restoration of the stone sanctuary. Surveying is scheduled to begin in the 2027 fiscal year, with the project expected to be completed within two years.

Additionally, there are plans to survey over 30 ancient sites along the border for official registration as national heritage sites and future development into tourist attractions. (TNA)
