Thailand at UNGA focuses on diplomacy and investment opportunities

At the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Thailand’s delegation, led by Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, will clarify the country’s stance on regional issues, including the Thai-Cambodian border, while promoting economic and investment opportunities through high-level bilateral meetings.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai delegation at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York will focus on two primary objectives: re-engaging with the international community to clarify Thailand’s position on regional issues and promoting economic and investment opportunities. The announcement was made by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura in a press briefing from New York on Thursday.

Nikorndej stated that a key goal is to present Thailand’s vision and stance to the global community, particularly concerning the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border. The Thai delegation, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow, will use the platform to ensure the international community receives accurate information. The Foreign Minister is scheduled to deliver a formal address to the General Assembly on September 27th.

The Thai Foreign Affairs Minister’s schedule also includes a series of high-level bilateral meetings with key figures, including the UN Secretary-General and the foreign ministers of Japan, Russia, and Malaysia, in their respective capacities as chairs of the Ottawa Convention, the upcoming UN Security Council, and ASEAN.


In addition to diplomatic engagements, the delegation will focus on economic promotion. The Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet with the US-ASEAN Business Council and the US Chamber of Commerce today to highlight investment opportunities in Thailand. (NNT)
