Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul launches the People’s Solar Power program, offering proposed assistance of 50,000 baht per household and projected annual electricity savings exceeding 24.5 billion baht nationwide.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has launched the People’s Solar Power program to help one million households generate their own electricity and reduce energy costs. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the October 27 launch, with projected annual electricity bill savings exceeding 24.5 billion baht nationwide.

The program proposes 50,000 baht in financial assistance per household to support solar panel installations, subject to eligibility requirements and conditions yet to be announced. Participants could also earn additional income by selling surplus electricity to the power grid, subject to regulations the relevant authorities will establish.

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) will coordinate the program under the Ministry of Interior, overseeing installation procedures and electrical safety standards. The government expects wider solar power adoption to reduce carbon emissions, create local jobs, and support Thailand’s transition to cleaner energy.

Interested households are advised to wait for official announcements before investing in solar equipment. Details on eligibility, registration, financial assistance, and surplus electricity sales have yet to be finalized. (NNT)
