BANGKOK, Thailand – Foreign advisories instructing citizens to stockpile emergency supplies are standard preventive measures rather than indications of an imminent crisis, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday. The statement followed a virtual meeting chaired by Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Eksiri Pintaruchi with Thai diplomatic missions across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States to assess global preparedness measures.
“Preparing for emergencies is a routine preventive measure used by many countries and does not currently signal a crisis,” said Jaithai Upakarnitikaset, ministry spokesperson. The ministry stated that Thai embassies and consulates are continuously monitoring local situations and maintain contingency plans to assist Thai nationals abroad if emergency situations arise. Thai diplomatic missions have been advising citizens living overseas to monitor local announcements closely and follow guidance issued by host authorities, the ministry added. (TNA)
