Thai and Australian authorities say they have identified key members of the drug syndicate linked to a Thai Airways flight attendant arrested in Australia with heroin, as raids and arrests are expected in Thailand.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai and Australian authorities have identified the syndicate members set to receive a major drug shipment from a Thai flight attendant detained in Australia, officials announced Wednesday. The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) held a one-hour closed-door virtual meeting with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF) under “Task Force Storm” to share intelligence on the transnational trafficking network. ONCB Secretary-General Pol. Maj. Suriya Singhakamon stated that investigators have mapped out the entire operation, identifying the senders, financial transactors, and Australia-based recipients. Details are currently withheld to safeguard the ongoing investigation. The suspect, a 26-year-old Thai Airways flight attendant identified as Ms. Meena, was arrested at an Australian airport on June 25, after customs officials discovered heroin concealed inside her two pieces of luggage. Officials stated she consented to the search during routine international profiling.

Australian authorities confirmed Ms. Meena will receive fair treatment and legal counsel. Responding to inquiries about her defense strategy—including whether she was an unwitting “victim”—Pol. Maj. Suriya emphasized that the case will proceed under the Australian justice system. Intelligence sharing also uncovered key figures linking the senders, financial transactors, and recipients, alongside the trafficking network that transports narcotics from production sources through Thailand to Australia. In Thailand, the Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) are tracking local accomplices, with raids and arrests expected within two days. The Prime Minister has placed the case on the agenda for the upcoming ONCB board meeting on Friday, July 3, which he will chair personally to implement stricter luggage screening and comprehensive X-ray protocols.
