BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) is promoting Thai Geographical Indication (GI) products through a collaboration with public figures Siwat Chotchaicharin and Amy Klinpratoom, presenting a series of dishes that showcase ingredients from across the country. Director-General Oramon Sapthaweetham said GI products play a key role in supporting community economies, with 258 items registered nationwide and generating more than 116 billion baht in value. More than 80 percent are food-related, creating opportunities to develop higher-value offerings. The initiative aligns with government policy to support small businesses and local producers through product development, quality control, and market access.

The collaboration features four dishes presented through online episodes, each highlighting ingredients tied to specific regions. The menus include a curry using sea bass from Songkhla Lake and Nam Hom (aromatic) coconut, a fusion pasta with river prawns and salted egg sauce, a pomelo salad from Samut Songkhram, and a claypot rice dish with southern salted mackerel paired with northeastern Hom Mali rice. The campaign is set to help expand awareness of GI products among modern consumers while supporting income generation in local communities. The department is also encouraging the public to follow the series online and access additional information through official channels to learn more about Thai ingredients and their cultural value. (NNT)
