Thailand’s Commerce Ministry and Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University are exploring research and innovation partnerships to help farmers in Chanthaburi tackle agricultural challenges, including falling mangosteen prices and oversupply concerns during the peak fruit season.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthamphun has held talks with Assoc. Prof. Porphan Sutthiwattana, acting president of Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University, on ways higher education institutions can help address agricultural and fruit-sector challenges in Chanthaburi province.

The discussions included possible cooperation between the university and related agencies to apply academic research, innovation, and development models to support local farmers and improve the management of agricultural issues in the province.

University representatives said the university plans to propose additional involvement by the institution in helping solve problems affecting Chanthaburi’s fruit industry through research and practical development.

Particular attention is being given to mangosteen production, which continues to face pressure from falling prices and concerns over the market’s ability to absorb large harvest volumes expected during this year’s fruit season. (NNT)
