PATTANI, Thailand – Thai security and administrative agencies held a joint briefing in Pattani province on August 24 following 75 violent incidents across Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Songkhla during August 22–23. Colonel Ekwarit Chobchuphol, deputy spokesperson for the ISOC Region 4 Forward Command, along with officials from the Southern Border Provinces Investigation Bureau and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), provided an overview of the situation.
Security agencies have deployed personnel to affected areas, while investigators and explosive ordnance disposal teams are collecting evidence and reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible and trace routes connected to the attacks. The prime minister, in his capacity as ISOC director, instructed authorities to restore conditions in affected communities and maintain public safety.
Eleven people, comprising six men and five women, were injured, while damage was reported to 17 buildings, 40 vehicles, 32 electricity poles, telecommunications infrastructure, and four CCTV cameras. The SBPAC has deployed teams across the four provinces and established a coordination center to assess damage, arrange compensation, and provide physical and psychological assistance to affected residents.
The ISOC Region 4 Forward Command urged the public to follow official information and report suspicious activity or information related to the incidents through the 24-hour 1341 hotline. Informants’ identities and information will remain confidential as authorities continue investigations, security operations, and relief efforts across affected communities. (NNT)
