SURAT THANI, Thailand – Surat Thani Governor Jumpot Wannachatsiri met with Israeli Ambassador to Thailand Alona Fisher-Kamm during her recent official visit to the southern province to discuss assistance for Israeli nationals and coordination between local authorities and the Israeli Embassy. Ambassador Fisher-Kamm sought cooperation in supporting Israeli tourists, long-term residents, and business operators in Surat Thani, while explaining that travelers are provided with guidance on Thai laws, customs, and appropriate conduct before visiting the country. She also requested direct coordination with the embassy when problems involving Israeli nationals arise. Israel currently has five development and promotional projects in Thailand, including an agricultural project on Ko Samui.
Governor Jumpot reaffirmed that Surat Thani provides equal and fair treatment to visitors of all nationalities. He made clear, however, that any foreign national who violates Thai law will face legal proceedings, regardless of their country of origin. The governor also expressed interest in Israel’s experience with high-value agriculture and its potential relevance to the province. The trip was Fisher-Kamm’s fourth visit to Surat Thani and also included the opening of Khuan La School in Tha Chang district. (NNT)
