Taking place every first Saturday of the month, from February to August, the event highlights the history and prosperity of the ancient Thai kingdom of Sukhothai.

The Sukhothai Mini Light and Sound 2023 performances will be held on the first Saturday of the month, from February to August, at Wat Sra Sri inside the Sukhothai Historical Park.

The shows are scheduled on 4 February, 4 March, 1 April, 6 May, 3 June, 1 July, and 5 August, and are free of charge. The show starts at 19.30 Hrs., and participants are encouraged to arrive by 18.00 Hrs. to secure the seats.

The show highlights the history and prosperity of the Sukhothai Kingdom, an ancient Thai capital, as a source of national heritage. The event celebrates Sukhothai’s King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, who reigned over Sukhothai’s golden age during the 13th century, and the kingdom’s historical role in the origins of the Thai alphabet, the national Loi Krathong celebration, fine Thin Chok cloth, and porcelain Chinaware.

On the show days, from 16.00-20.00 Hrs., there will be activities and local food to enjoy in an ancient-style fair at Tha Nam Rap Sadet Market, also located within the Sukhothai Historical Park.

While in Sukhothai, visitors can check out the Sukhothai Thani Walking Street Market, from 17.00-20.00 Hrs, at the riverside road from the Yom River opposite Wat Ratchathani. The Market takes place regularly on every Saturday, with vendors on either side of the road, selling Thai food, sweets, and snacks, and local arts and crafts.

Visitors might also like to check out the Ramkhamhaeng Museum, also located near the entrance of the Park. Dedicated to preserving the archaeological finds from excavations at both the Sukhothai Historical Park and Sri Satchanalai Historical Park, the site is another source of national pride.

Other nearby attractions include Saritphong Dam, known as Phra Ruang Dam, which also dates back to the original Sukhothai Kingdom.

Sukhothai is located 420 kilometres north of Bangkok or about four-five hours by car or 1 hour 15 minutes by air. Bangkok Airways offers daily Bangkok to Sukhothai flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
