SATUN, 15 July 2015 – Some schools in the southern province of Satun remain closed as a result of the ongoing floods. Meanwhile, the provincial governor has warned parents to keep their children away from water.

The worst flood-hit areas include the districts of Kuan Done, Thapae, Langu and Muang. Although water levels have begun to recede, some communities remain under water. In Langu district, water overflowing from the local canal has made the road leading to the downtown impassable.

In Muang District, disaster prevention and mitigation officials have installed danger warning signs in flood-damaged zones, and are closely monitoring the situation. Three schools have been forced to suspend their classes temporarily due to the inundation.

The Satun governor has called on parents to keep a close watch on their children as flooding could lead to drowning.
