BANGKOK, Thailand – A retired Thai police general driving a Mercedes-Benz allegedly struck a motorcycle, injuring the rider, before fleeing the scene. Good Samaritans chased him down and intercepted his vehicle roughly 200 meters from the crash site. The former officer claims he was not trying to flee, but rather didn’t want to cause further traffic congestion. He denies being under the influence and has promised to cover all damages. Notably, he was once part of the investigation team for the high-profile Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya case.

On April 28 around 11:00 p.m., a bronze Mercedes-Benz E240 was reported to have hit a motorcycle near the entrance of Kluaynamthai Hospital on Rama IV Road in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district. The car then continued driving toward the Phra Khanong intersection before being stopped by concerned citizens.

The driver, later identified as Pol. Gen. Satavat Hirunburana, 65, a former police advisor, was taken to the Khlong Tan Police Station for questioning. He stated that he had no intention of fleeing the scene, but chose to drive ahead to find a better parking spot and avoid worsening traffic. He insisted he was not intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The motorcycle rider, a man identified only as Natee, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kluaynamthai Hospital. The retired general has reportedly sent representatives to assist the victim and has offered to fully compensate for the damages.

Eyewitnesses told police that the Mercedes-Benz had changed lanes and collided with the motorcycle. Investigators confirmed the incident took place in the second lane from the left, while the motorbike was in the far-left lane.

The getaway – The Mercedes-Benz fled the scene but was intercepted about 200 meters away thanks to vigilant citizens.
