RAYONG, 10 August 2015 – Rayong Province and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) have joined hands to hold a beach conservation campaign, in celebration of the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday.

Rayong Province and the DMCR held the beach cleaning and returning marine animal to the sea activity today, at Mae Ramphueng Beach. About 1,000 people from the government agencies, private agencies, tourism entrepreneurs, students, and the general public participated in this activity.

The Governor of Rayong, Somsak Suwansujarit, said that this activity reflects the unity of the people by demonstrating their loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen, in their mutual effort to help preserve marine and coastal resources.

Other than collecting garbage from both the beach and the sea, the activities in this event also included coral transplantation, and the release of 40 sea turtles and 1 million fish back to their natural habitat.

Sea turtles are among the rare endangered marine animals. The global community is now aware of the declining number of sea turtles which may lead to their extinction in the near future, due to threats such as turtle egg harvesting, construction projects in the beach area, the destruction of the turtle’s natural habitat and food source, natural disasters and climate change.
