NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand – Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit has directed agencies to accelerate preparations for the Nakhon Ratchasima International Horticultural Expo 2029, incorporating recommendations from the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) before submitting the project to the Cabinet. Suriya chaired a meeting on August 26 to review progress on the expo and plans for developing the site.
The review follows an NESDC inspection on August 14-15 of the proposed expo site in Khong district and the Dairy Cattle Research and Development Center in Pak Chong district. The assessment covered the suitability of the venue, the proposed master plan budget, the use of existing resources, and long-term management of the site after the event, including potential economic and community benefits.
The Department of Agriculture and Cooperatives has been instructed to consolidate information from agencies involved in the preparations and complete the necessary details for Cabinet consideration. Following the Cabinet’s decision, Thailand will report the outcome to the International Association of Horticultural Producers and the Bureau International des Expositions to confirm the country’s readiness to host the international event.
The expo is set to showcase Thailand’s horticultural diversity, infrastructure, and agricultural expertise while providing an international platform for Thai farmers. The event is also expected to create income and economic opportunities for communities across Nakhon Ratchasima, with plans for the site to continue delivering benefits after the expo ends. (NNT)
