BANGKOK,(NNT) – Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on January 1 visited injured soldiers and volunteers at Phra Mongkutklao Hospital to give them moral support and gifts on the occasion of the New Year’s Day.

Her Royal Highness visited all the injured soldiers and civilians by their beds and talked with them about their conditions. The Princess extended her wish for their speedy recovery and also presented gift bags, clothes and packs of milk and sweets to relatives of the wounded.

A total of 36 soldiers and volunteers are currently admitted to the hospital. Most of them received severe injuries while providing protection to teachers and students in the three southernmost provinces. Some were wounded during narcotic suppression drives. Many become amputees, losing one or both legs, or blinded. They are undergoing long-term rehabilitation as well as occupational training at the hospital. The Army’s Housewives Association has helped provide accommodations and food for their relatives coming from the provinces to stay close to them throughout their treatment at the hospital.
