NONTHABURI, Thailand – Plai Bang police are investigating a leaked chat message allegedly warning of another violent incident at Debsirind Nonthaburi School on August 17–18, while preparing enhanced security measures ahead of the school’s reopening. Pol. Col. Phasakorn Chaithaweewong, chief of Plai Bang Police Station, said on August 9 that the president and vice president of the school’s parent network had brought screenshots of the Line messages to police on August 8 and filed a report requesting an investigation. The messages, which were circulated among a parents’ group after being shared by students, caused concern across the school community. Police have assigned investigators to verify the source and credibility of the alleged threat.
A separate claim that another person may have been involved in the original incident was reportedly the result of a misunderstanding. The school’s parent network said students may have mistaken plainclothes officers from Lumpini Police Station, who were among the first officers to enter the building to assist students, for another suspect. Debsirind Nonthaburi School is temporarily closed and is scheduled to reopen on Monday, August 17. School officials are preparing tighter weapons screening and additional measures to monitor the wellbeing of students and teachers.
Pol. Col. Phasakorn said police were taking the latest threat seriously and would not be complacent. Investigators have already been ordered to establish whether the messages represent a genuine threat or misinformation. Police are also preparing security arrangements for the reopening day, with patrol officers assigned to the school around the clock to help prevent further incidents and reassure students, teachers and parents.
