Police officer wounded in Yala bombing

YALA, July 3 – A police officer was slightly wounded this morning in a bombing at a temple entrance in Bannang Sata district of this southern border province.

Before the explosion, a local resident found a suspicious object placed at the entrance of Nerancharawat Temple and reported it to the police.

The explosive device went off while the police were inspecting the object.

A policeman was wounded and sent to hospital.

Fortunately, the bomb was noticed early morning before the usual large number of shoppers would arrive at a nearby market. Otherwise, Buddhist monks, monk protection units and more people could have been injured in the incident.

It is believed that the incident was the work of insurgents.
