PHUKET, Thailand – Local police monitored a peaceful rally outside a Jewish community center in Patong on Friday, where residents expressed safety and economic concerns regarding a scheduled Jewish New Year religious gathering.
Demonstrators organized by a local civic group, “Protecting Phuket Land,” gathered near Loma Park before walking toward the Chabad Patong center. Group representative Sai-chol Nuchet said the assembly aimed to sit across the street to raise awareness about venue suitability, tourism management in high-density areas, and the local economic impact of such events. The event at the center was expected to draw up to 700 attendees and will run from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Provincial authorities noted that while the scale of the gathering was adjusted following talks, the event proceeded as planned under standard freedom of assembly and religious expression protocols. Police remained on site to assist with traffic flow and maintain public order. (TNA)
