Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin ordered officials to restore public access to Nui Beach in Phuket within one week, amid long-standing encroachment and entry fee complaints. Authorities will remove barriers and pursue legal action to return the area to public use.

PHUKET, Thailand – Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has inspected Nui Beach in Phuket province, ordering authorities to reclaim public land within one week following complaints over blocked access and the collection of entry fees.

Suchart was joined by senior officials, including Pol Maj Gen Nuntachart Supamongkol, Department of National Parks Director-General Athapol Charoenshunsa, and Royal Forest Department Deputy Director-General Patpong Samittipat. The delegation, during the visit to Karon subdistrict, was welcomed by Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn and local officials.

Authorities said the area has faced encroachment issues involving forest and public land since 2018, with legal cases nearing final stages. The minister directed agencies to remove barriers, restore access routes, and pursue legal action to return the land to public use, stating that beaches and forest areas are state assets that must remain accessible to all.

Further inspections will be conducted in coordination with related agencies to identify unlawful land use and return affected areas to state control. The site is expected to be restored and developed into a public recreational area, in line with government policy to protect natural resources and ensure fair access for residents and visitors. (NNT)
