Phayao issues marriage licenses on lake on Valentine’s Day


Phayao – The northern province of Phayao organized a special marriage license issuing ceremony on Phayao Lake to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Feb 14.

The Vice Governor of Phayao, Wutthichai Saowakomut, presided over the ceremony for 35 couples at Wat Tilok Aram Pier in the middle of Phayao Lake.

The couples in this ceremony gave alms to nine Buddhist monks for their good fortune, before boarding rowboats to Tilok Aram temple located on an island in the middle of Phayao Lake to sign their marriage licenses.

The Muang Phayao District Chief, Suwit Suriyawong, said the event was held to encourage couples to be legally married by signing marriage licenses amidst a memorable and scenic landscape of Phayao Lake, as well as promoting the province’s tourism activities.
