BANGKOK, Thailand – The People’s Party has outlined three key conditions for voting on a new Prime Minister, aiming to break the current political deadlock. Party leader Natthapong Rueangpanyawut emphasized that the incoming Prime Minister must dissolve the House of Representatives within four months, initiate constitutional reforms to ensure fairness, and that the People’s Party will not join the government.
Following the Constitutional Court’s ruling that removed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office over a leaked audio clip with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, the People’s Party convened to determine its stance on forming the next government. Natthapong stressed that the party has consistently called for the Prime Minister to step down and allow the people to choose a new administration with legitimate authority to address the country’s political and economic crises.
“The new government must be stable, politically legitimate, and able to appoint capable leaders rather than those installed through political bargaining,” Natthapong said. “Given the current composition of the House, such a government cannot form under the existing system, so the best way forward is to elect a new Prime Minister who will promptly dissolve the House and pave the way for a general election.”
The People’s Party will remain in opposition, fully exercising its role to monitor the government. Natthapong added that any party seeking the People’s Party’s support to form a government must accept all three conditions. He reiterated that the party’s goal is to ensure a government with clear legitimacy and that the next election reflects the people’s choice.
On the issue of the recent Thailand-Cambodia border tensions, Natthapong stated that it remains the responsibility of the caretaker government and all state agencies to communicate effectively to prevent Thailand from being disadvantaged in international perception. (TNA)
