The agency urges the public to inspect electrical systems, use safety devices, keep appliances away from flood areas, and report emergencies via the 1129 PEA Contact Center.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has issued a public safety advisory as Thailand officially enters the rainy season on May 15, 2026, following the announcement by the Thai Meteorological Department. PEA expressed concern over potential hazards caused by heavy rainfall, strong winds, flash floods, and possible electrical disruptions during the seasonal transition.

The authority advised the public to regularly inspect electrical wiring, plugs, and appliances to ensure they are in safe condition and not at risk of short circuits. It also recommended installing residual current devices (RCDs) to reduce the risk of electric shock from leakage currents.

Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to elevate electrical appliances to prevent water damage and electrical hazards, and to switch off power at the circuit breaker immediately if flooding occurs in homes or buildings.

PEA further warned against using electrical devices in wet or damp conditions, and advised people not to touch switches, sockets, or appliances with wet hands. The public is also urged to avoid approaching electrical poles, power lines, trees, or billboards that may fall onto electrical systems during strong winds. In cases where damaged power lines, fallen poles, or faulty equipment are found, people are strongly advised not to touch or approach the area.

PEA encouraged the public to closely follow weather updates from the Thai Meteorological Department and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and to report electrical incidents via the 1129 PEA Contact Center, which is available 24 hours a day. (TNA)
