BANGKOK, Thailand – Paetongtarn Shinawatra visited her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, at Klong Prem Central Prison on 15 September. Meeting through a glass partition, she reported that Thaksin is in good health, has short-cropped hair, and remains mentally resilient, though experiencing occasional stress and fluctuating blood pressure.

Paetongtarn noted that this was the first time her parents had seen each other in 17 years, making the brief 30-minute encounter particularly meaningful. She expressed gratitude for the support from Red Shirt movement members and other well-wishers who came to the area to show encouragement.

Thaksin’s personal lawyer, Winyat Chatmontri, confirmed that Thaksin is treated like other inmates, with no special privileges. He is housed in the senior and medical wings due to his age and existing health conditions. Winyat emphasized that Thaksin’s safety is strictly maintained according to prison regulations.

Questions about Thaksin contributing to programs for younger inmates were addressed by Paetongtarn, who said her father could share his experiences, not just in language skills but life perspectives. Regarding legal matters, including potential sentence reductions or administrative changes, all actions are being handled by Thaksin’s legal team.

Winyat reiterated that any rumors about special treatment, property claims abroad, or administrative changes are false. He added that Thaksin will continue to be visited regularly by family and legal counsel, following the standard prison schedule.

Paetongtarn said her parents reunited for the first time in 17 years during a brief 30-minute visit, thanking supporters for their encouragement.
