Opal set to walk in Thai-Mexican Fashion Show at Thai Embassy in Mexico City

Celebrating 50 Years of Thai-Mexican Friendship – Miss Universe Thailand 2024, Opal Suchata, will walk the runway in a unique Thai-Mexican textile design at the “Weaving Cultures” fashion show in Mexico City.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Opal Suchata Chuangsri, Miss Universe Thailand 2024, will participate in the fashion show “Weaving Cultures: Thai and Mexican Textiles in Harmony” hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico City. The event celebrates 50 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Mexico and is a collaboration between Thailand’s Naresuan University Textile Museum and Oaxaca state in Mexico.

Opal, representing Thailand on the global stage, will walk the runway in a specially designed outfit that uniquely blends Thai and Mexican textile elements, showcasing the shared artistic heritage of the two nations. The show will also include other distinguished Thai and Mexican guests modeling traditional Thai fabrics.

The event opens with traditional performances, including the Thai Hanuman masked dance with a Spanish narration, a traditional Isan dance from Thailand, and the Mixteca dance from Oaxaca. Following this, a textile panel discussion will feature weaving experts from both countries, comparing and celebrating the differences and similarities in weaving traditions. Exhibits will display traditional Thai Lue costumes alongside native Oaxaca outfits, offering a rich visual narrative of each culture’s unique textile art.


Textile Traditions in Harmony – Thai and Mexican woven art takes the spotlight with Opal leading the fashion show, featuring unique pieces that celebrate the beauty of Thai and Oaxaca weaving.

“Weaving Cultures” will be open to the public from October 29 to November 1, 2024, and is expected to draw over 200 distinguished guests from the Mexican public, private, and media sectors, as well as an online audience through live streaming. The Thai Embassy has also arranged for Thai handwoven products and OTOP (One Tambon One Product) items from northern Thailand to be available for purchase at the event, along with food stalls featuring top Thai restaurants in Mexico.

This exhibition is an opportunity for the Thai Embassy to highlight Thailand’s soft power through its renowned textiles and culinary arts, strengthening cultural ties with Mexico through a showcase of both nations’ rich heritage.
