Royal Thai Navy clarified that the repatriation of 30 Cambodian nationals and three dependents through Chanthaburi was a legal deportation process after sentence completion, stressing that border closure measures with Cambodia remain fully in force.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Navy has stated that the repatriation of Cambodian nationals through the Ban Laem Permanent Border Checkpoint in Chanthaburi Province does not constitute a reopening of the Thai-Cambodian border or any easing of current border-control measures. Navy Spokesman Rear Admiral Paraj Ratanajaipan said border closure measures remain fully in force across all areas under the Navy’s jurisdiction. The clarification followed an operation by the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command, carried out through the Chanthaburi Marine Task Force, in support of the Immigration Bureau. A total of 30 Cambodian nationals and three dependents were returned to Cambodia after completing prison sentences and all related legal proceedings in Thailand.

According to the Navy, the individuals had been convicted of offenses including illegal entry, narcotics-related crimes, and other violations of Thai law. Upon completion of their sentences, immigration authorities were required to carry out their deportation in accordance with the Immigration Act. The Navy said the operation was conducted solely to fulfill legal obligations concerning the removal of foreign nationals from the Kingdom and should not be viewed as a change in border policy. Authorities added that border security measures remain in place as agencies continue efforts to prevent illegal crossings, combat cross-border crime, maintain public order, and safeguard national security along the Thai-Cambodian border. (NNT)
