NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand – A 16.4-kilometre rural road upgrade in Wang Nam Khiao district has been completed and opened to traffic, improving travel safety while strengthening links to tourism destinations and agricultural markets in Nakhon Ratchasima.
The Department of Rural Roads said the project upgraded Rural Road No. Nor Mor 5069, connecting Rural Road No. Nor Mor 3060 with Ban Tha Wang Sai in Wang Nam Khiao district. The 163-million-baht project upgraded the road to a two-lane asphalt concrete standard, with improvements to the road alignment and a five-centimetre surface applied using the Hot Mix In-Plant Recycling method.
The upgraded road has a nine-metre-wide carriageway, new thermoplastic road markings, speed-reduction markings in both directions and additional traffic signs and safety equipment at high-risk locations, junctions and curves. The department said the route is expected to accommodate growing traffic from local residents and tourists while improving access to Wang Nam Khiao, a popular destination known for its natural attractions and scenic viewpoints.
The improved road will also strengthen connections between local communities and economic areas, while facilitating the transport of agricultural products from farms to markets.
Products transported along the route include cassava, corn, sugar cane, vegetables and cool-climate fruits such as jujube, grapes and custard apples. The department said the improved road will help shorten travel times and reduce logistics costs, while facilitating trade, distributing income to local communities and supporting tourism growth in Nakhon Ratchasima.
The project forms part of the Department of Rural Roads’ efforts to improve the country’s rural transport network under the policy of Transport Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn. The department said the policy focuses on improving convenience and safety, strengthening road connectivity for goods transport and supporting economic growth through better infrastructure.
