BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Intellectual Property has extended waiver and special discount measures on music copyright fees for restaurants and entertainment venues in Thailand’s three southern border provinces, providing continued relief to businesses affected by prolonged unrest.
Director-General Oramon Sapthaweetham said the department has coordinated with music copyright collection agencies to maintain support for operators in Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, where security conditions have continued to disrupt commercial activity.
Under the extension, participating agencies will continue to waive copyright fees, apply reduced rates, or offer other suitable assistance through Dec. 31, 2026. Fifteen copyright collection agencies have confirmed participation, and the department is working with additional agencies to expand coverage and options for business operators.
Eligible establishments must be located within the three provinces and be registered members of a participating copyright collection agency. New operators must complete membership registration with the relevant agency before qualifying for the measures.
The department reminded operators who use music for commercial purposes, such as live performances or background music, to obtain proper authorization and clearly understand the limits of permitted use. Song rights can be checked through the department’s official database, with further information available from the Copyright Division or the hotline at 1368. (NNT)
