Bangkok air quality still at health-impacting levels despite falling PM2.5

Morning haze hangs over central Bangkok as PM2.5 pollution remains in the orange category, prompting health officials to advise residents to limit outdoor activities and wear protective masks.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok’s air quality remained at a level beginning to affect health, even as fine particulate matter levels showed signs of improvement.

At 7 a.m., the citywide average PM2.5 concentration stood at 48.2 micrograms per cubic meter, exceeding the national safety standard of 37.5 micrograms per cubic meter. While pollution levels were reported to be declining, overall air quality remained in the orange category.



According to the Bangkok Air Quality Information Center, the highest PM2.5 concentrations were recorded in Pathum Wan, Bang Rak, Sathon, Chatuchak, and Bang Sue districts, with readings ranging from about 58 to nearly 73 micrograms per cubic meter.

Health officials advised the public to take precautions such as wearing PM2.5 masks outdoors and limiting strenuous activities. High-risk groups were urged to avoid outdoor exertion, follow medical guidance, and seek prompt care if abnormal symptoms develop. (NNT)
