MOU signed to promote health among students

BANGKOK, 18 July 2012 – The Education and Public Health Ministries have signed an MOU aimed at promoting good health among Thai teenagers. 

Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri and Education Minister Suchart Thada-Thamvongvej yesterday signed the MOU, agreeing to help promote good health, both physically and mentally, among teenagers; so they will have fewer problems with diseases and live a happier life.

Under the agreement, clinics for teenagers will be established to offer advice on teenage issues as well as medical services, with an emphasis on sexually transmitted diseases and drug problems. Additionally, the ministries has aimed to set up 1,000 clinics for teenagers in community hospitals by 2016.

Mr Suchart stated that the Education Ministry will establish 226 student service centers across the nation to offer emergency assistance to students. Besides, other activities such as friend-to-friend advice projects will also be launched in 24 pilot schools in six provinces, where psychiatrists will be on hand to counsel troubled students.
