BANGKOK, 17 July 2014,  – A combined task force of military and police officers has raided a condominium in Pathumwan District of Bangkok, confiscating several war-grade firearms and a large batch of ammunition.

According to Deputy Commissioner General Police General Somyod Pumpanmuang, police yesterday raided a cache of weapons in Pathumwan, Bangkok, and arrested Mr. Satchaya ‘Kwan’ Satirapongsasutti on charge of possessing illegal weapons. They also seized several firearms and a large quantity of ammunition.

Among the items confiscated were several M16 and other smaller rifles, a set of gun barrels, a number of handguns, over 5,000 rounds of ammunition, rifle magazines, bulletproof vests, pistol bullet loaders, and bulletproof helmets. All of the items were hidden inside a condominium in Chidlom, in Bangkok’s Pathumwan District.

The suspect confessed that he had hidden the firearms in the condominium, claiming however that the items belonged to a military officer. An investigation will be launched to determine who the real owner is, said the police.
