CHONBURI, Thailand – Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin and Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa inspected flooding and water management at Amata City Chonburi Industrial Estate on October 2, 2026, to assess flood impacts and coordinate immediate drainage efforts.
The ministers were welcomed by Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong, Amata Corporation Public Company Limited Chief Executive Officer Vikrom Kromadit, and relevant officials, who briefed them on water conditions in the industrial estate and surrounding communities.
Minister Suchart noted that ongoing rainfall has affected multiple areas, requiring faster water management and drainage. He emphasized the need for government agencies to collaborate to minimize impacts on residents, property, industrial operations, and nearby communities.
After the briefing, Minister Suchart discussed measures to speed up water flow through canals to the sea. He stated that the Royal Irrigation Department would coordinate water management and seek ways to improve drainage efficiency.
However, drainage operations must account for downstream water levels and high tides to avoid creating additional impacts in other areas. The ministers and their delegation inspected water levels across various phases of Amata City using a military GMC vehicle. In some areas, floodwater reached the vehicle’s wheels. They also assessed conditions behind Phase 10 firsthand.
Minister Suchart emphasized that pumping water from the industrial estate must be coordinated with canal capacity and downstream conditions so that resolving flooding in one area does not transfer the problem to neighboring communities. The ministers instructed relevant agencies to strengthen coordination and restore normal conditions as quickly as possible. (NNT)
